At marketplaces, it is possible to buy in bulk from weapons vendors. 45 round is a hard-hitting ammunition type that becomes commonly used by raiders, Gunners and mercenaries around level 20. The barricaded intact house at the end of the street has a Novice locked safe under a baby’s crib, and a skeleton holding a Pipe Gun. It is not only a root cellar but also an above ground storm shelter. The house next to your old house has a Novice locked safe next to the bed. Your old house has a Grognak the Barbarian on the kitchen counter, and a You’re SPECIAL book next to Shaun’s crib. The Able House next to the Hawthorne house has a locked suitcase. A Terminal in the Hawthorne residence describes his drug dealing, and the also contains a Novice locked booby-trapped safe, a 10mm Pistol in the shower, and a Chemical Station out back. When the player returns, they will be allowed to create a Settlement by interacting with a Work Bench, and construct new housing, defenses, and sustainable resources to entice settlers to live in Sanctuary. At the start of the game, the player can briefly explore their own house and parts of the cul-de-sac before being forced out of the area. Sanctuary is an important location, as it is the site of the game's beginning, both pre-war and post-war. Despite the slightly-demolished state, the site's natural moat and one bridge make it a prime location for building a settlement. The site hosts 14 buildings (many have collapsed in the aftermath of the Great War). Sanctuary resembles the common 1950's suburban cul-de-sac, isolated from most of the wasteland.
